Chaweng Beach bars & restaurants, Koh Samui, Thailand
This was the most AMAZING array of beachside restaurants and bars RIGHT on the sand that I think I've ever seen. These spots are on north Chaweng Beach, southwards from the Island Resort & Spa, including the Rim Lay Restaurant, Greenstone Bar, Ark Bar, & Samui Mandalay Resotel. Full Moon Party in Koh Samui?
Question by Lou: Full Moon Party in Koh Samui?

My Boyfriend and I just went to Koh Samui in July. We stayed at the Amari Palm Reef on Chaweng Beach. It was very nice, but part of the hotel is on the beach side and part of it is across the street. We rented beachside, but they were renovating at that time and we had to stay across the street. So, of course I recommend the Amari Palm Reef Hotel. Anyway, Chaweng Beach on the Island of Koh Samui is the most touristy area. One U.S. Dollar is equal to about 40 Thai Baht so most places should be fairly reasonable. We did not go to the "Full Moon Party" but I can say to watch out for the scammers. Taxis will overcharge you b/c they can, but with the ratio of the currency, it shouldn't be so bad. Have a great time!!! I can't wait to go back myself.

I was in Thailand in April and we found the cheapest way is to book your tickets direct with thai airways, just give them a call and you can collect the tickets at the airport. So much cheaper than the travel agents over there, they add on alot of money to the original price of the ticket. Have a great time, you will love it.

it depends on your definition of good weather. i've been living in thailand for the past 8 years. that is my absolute favorite time to go places in that country. the weather is not too hot, there is no rain (it's REALLY rare for it to rain at that time of year) i'd highly recommend you go at that time. stop by some other places too, it's different everywhere you go!

Who has been to more than one of these places? Bali, Koh Samui, and Vietnam?
Question by berman250: Who has been to more than one of these places? Bali, Koh Samui, and Vietnam?
I am taking a trip out to Asia and am planning on going to a tropical area for about a week...I have probably narrowed things down to these three places. I am a 29-year old, single male and am going to be down there with a buddy of mine....so what we are looking for is a place that has a really good nightlife scene...but also has amazing beaches, lots of outdoor/adventure activities (ie - hiking, mountains, whitewater rafting/kayaking, ATVs, etc) great food, lots of culture, lots of nature, and friendly people.
I would love input from anyone who has gone to any of these 3 places. I would especially love input from someone who has gone to MORE than one of these places, and maybe offer an opinion as to which place my buddy and I will like more, given what we are looking for. Thanks!

I have been to Bali and Koh Samui. Bali has nice beaches (Legion and Kuta, to name two of such). I was in Bali a few months before the explosion at the clubs there. I'm not too sure about the nightlife there anymore, but it is a beautiful place once away from some of the tourist hotels and so forth. I'm not for sure about the outdoor activities that you listed. I'm sure you performed a search on the area and looked if they had those activities. I also might suggest that you haggle prices whenever you try to buy something.
Koh Samui is mainly a resort area. Nice beaches and so. They have tours to do activities. To tell you the truth, I would go to Pattaya if I were you, you can do kayaking, diving, ATVs, jetskis, paragliding and other such activities. Pattaya also is a lot cheaper when it comes to doing such activities as these. Koh Samui and Phuket are more so resort locations so prices for services are higher there than they would be in Pattaya.

Image from our recent trip to Koh Samui in Thailand. This was a waterfall we walked to but to actually get to see it would have brought out the FALL aspect of waterfall. The path was very dangerous!
